LETTER TO THE KING

Dear King Louis XIV,

We, the new Intendants of New France, are in charge of the state of the colony, but also we are in charge of the families.  Families are important in this colony because they supported the population.  If there were no families, there would not be any children; therefore, Jean Talon’s hopes of further populating our colony would be shattered.  Children are a very important part of this colony, formed and made by families.  They are the future developers of New France, and that is why we have taken concern in the development of the colony of New France.

First of all, concerning the self-sufficiency of this colony, we have had ideas that will assist in the developing of this important aspect in forming a more cohesive colony.

-For many families to have a communicating marriage, with children, so that the families could be cooperative and reliable, working together even more to present the colony as a whole.

-To have the different types of families depend on each other-to trust each other, and to have productive work throughout the colony. This will enable communication throughout the colony, and better work for the inhabitants. If the colony again would be able to work as whole, families alike, New France would function better and be more fertile.  This would be important because communicating is an important characteristic in the role of teamwork.  The families would learn how to listen to each other, and produce an effective colony.  More work would be done as well.

-For the families to actually learn how self-sufficiency works and what it is as well. This will promote more of a self-awareness in the colony, and also, the families will realize more clearly how the colony system is beginning to work and develop.  This is a basic method of learning-to know a function or characteristic, you have to know what it is first.  The settlers and families need to know that self-sufficiency is being able to manage their own affairs, and to make their own judgements, and provide resources for themselves.  Once they know that, they will be actually able to function in terms of this characteristic.

This also links to the process of stimulating the economy.  Once the settlers learn to be self-sufficient, they could get a head-start on developing the economy.  The economy is important, and many of the aspects are all linked to having the quality of self sufficiency.  So, you now know how actually important it is to teach the settlers self-sufficiency.

So, we hope that you have enjoyed our presentation of our ideas, and we hope that you will accept them into your new colony, in the process of developing it.

In conclusion, the self-sufficiency of the colony and the families is one of the basic characteristics, which have built a good foundation for the colony and productivity. Had it not been for self-sufficiency, and the other foundations to build up and construct a functioning colony, our country, Canada would not have been where it is today; New France was part of what is now present-day Canada.
